The Marine Art of B.J.Phillips

Most of the original oil paintings contained in the following pages are of ships, Clipper Ships and Tall Ships from that period of Maritime History we call ‘The Great Age of Sail’. The Clipper ships were the workhorses that carried the goods that fuelled the expansion of world trade and emigration for a period of just 100 years. But, although being just a tool, they have left us a lasting legacy of beauty and adventure.
These clouds of canvas have long inspired artists and Maritime Art is as popular today as when these Tall Ships were an everyday sight something for which I thank my lucky stars as for the last 35 years I have earned my daily bread by painting these Tall Ships, and their somewhat less elegant sisters, both in oil and watercolour.

The works on the following pages are all now hanging in clients’ homes, offices or Municipal Museums so none are available for sale; however I am in the process of building a new site which will feature all the new work available for sale along with a range of Limited Edition Prints.
